ROPSSAA RETURN TO PLAY – Dec. 7

2021-2011 Winter Season Postponed – January 3, 2022

With the decision by the Ministry of Education and Provincial Government to pivot to virtual learning for two weeks among other restrictions, ROPSSAA, in discussion with both Peel District School Board and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, have decided to postpone all events scheduled during the month of January.

ROPSSAA will continue to monitor government and public health guidance. Further postponements or cancellations may occur because of government restrictions.

When a return to play is possible, relevant league structures will need to be altered in accordance with OFSAA entry deadlines. Once new structures have been confirmed, communication will be sent to all participating schools. The possibility exists that advancement to OFSAA will not occur based on government restrictions and public health guidance. Non-OFSAA leagues and events structures may need to be adjusted as well.

We apologize for the inconvenience and understand the frustration this causes; however, these decisions are being made in the best interest of safety for all participants.

Take care of yourselves and take care of each other.

Return To play Announcement – Sept. 21, 2021

The Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association is happy to announce the return of its interschool athletic programming.  Our Return to Play Guidelines have been distributed to schools today.  More school-based information regarding activities will be shared by individual schools as they implement the Return to Play Guidelines.

Active participation in athletics has known health benefits, including physical fitness and mental wellness.  Athletics provides social interaction which is necessary in a time of uncertainty for our students. It is with this in mind, that we have prioritized getting our youth back to play and competition with health and safety for all participants as our primary focus.

As the pandemic continues, it is all our responsibilities to take reasonable steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect all individuals who participate in our athletic activities. The Peel District School Board, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and ROPSSAA have worked diligently with Peel Public Health to determine our Return to Play Protocols that will keep our student-athletes, teacher-coaches, officials and public safe.

These initiatives include but are not limited to; attendance tracking to conduct contact tracing, daily screening prior to participation, sanitization of high touch surfaces, mandatory masking for all individuals not actively involved in play, physical distancing where possible, spectator restrictions and more.  It is only with a full commitment, by all parties to the protocols that have been established, can we ensure athletic activities are as safe as possible.

Students who wish to learn more about the interschool athletic opportunities at their school should contact their school’s physical education office and/or athletic contact for more information.
